Dr. Philipp M. Richter

Philipp M. Richter is Acting Chair of Economics at the University of Mannheim and a postdoctoral researcher at JMU Würzburg. He is also a CESifo Research Network Affiliate, a DIW Research Fellow, and an External Research Fellow at the Kiel Centre for Globalization (KCG).

Philipp is an economist specializing in the intersection of international trade and environmental economics, with a particular focus on firm heterogeneity. His research takes a micro-level perspective, combining theoretical and empirical methods using German firm-level data. Recently, his work has incorporated quantitative modeling. His research has been published in journals including the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, Journal of International Economics, European Economic Review, Review of Environmental Economics and Policy, Review of International Economics, and Energy Economics.

Before joining Mannheim in 2025, Philipp held positions as Assistant Professor and Interim Professor at TU Dresden, and as Visiting Professor at the University of Mannheim. He was also a research assistant at the University of Potsdam and at the Department of Energy, Transportation, Environment at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). He received his Ph.D. in economics from TU Berlin through the DIW Graduate Center.
