Prof. Dr. Markus Frölich

Prof. Dr. Markus Frölich ist seit 2008 Professor für Ökonometrie an der Abteilung Volkswirtschafts­lehre. Er promovierte 2002 an der Universität St. Gallen (Schweiz) und erlangte sein Diplom in Volkswirtschafts­lehre 1998 an der Universität Konstanz. Er ist außerdem Research Fellow des Instituts zur Zukunft der Arbeit (IZA) in Bonn sowie des Instituts für Arbeits­markt­politikevaluation (IFAU) in Uppsala (Schweden).

Seine Forschungs­interessen liegen auf den Gebieten der Impakt Evaluation (Politikevaluation, Treatment Effekte), Arbeits(markt)ökonomik, Entwicklungs­ökonomik sowie Mikroökonometrie (Nichtparametik, Instrumentalvariablen).

    Student Assistant for Impact Evaluations, Data Collection and Data Analysis (m/f/d) (A2003SA)


    The Chair of Econometrics at the University of Mannheim is looking for a Student Assistant to provide thorough support for various current research projects, starting as soon as possible, for initially 6 months and up to 35h/month.

    The University of Mannheim is one of the leading research institutions in Germany, and it has a renowned Department of Economics. With a strong focus on quanti­tative impact evaluations in developing countries, the Chair of Econometrics conducts research in poverty reduction, microfinance, health insurance, education, humanitarian assistance, and nutrition.

    Your profile

    You are a student (Bachelor or Master) of Economics or a related field (e.g., Statistics, Survey Methodology) with a strong interest in quanti­tative methods, data analysis, and conducting surveys. You have a basic understanding of impact evaluation methods. You have very good programming skills using Stata and/or R and ideally worked already with large datasets. You have a strong command of English (French would be a plus). Data collection experience and knowledge about CAPI software are a plus.
    You have proven organization and planning skills in your curricular and extra-curricular activities, and you feel comfortable working independently in dynamic settings and communicating in teams. You have proven to be flexible and adaptable and you are enthusiastic to learn on the job.

    Possible duties

    • Desk review and literature research
    • Proposal writing
    • Data cleaning and analysis with Stata
    • Report writing and formatting
    • Assistance in the development, programming, and bench-testing of questionnaires
    • Assistance in data quality assurance during data collection
    • Assistance in the preparation of workshops and meetings
    • Communication support
