Dr. Johanna Gather

Dr. Johanna Gather is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Econometrics, Prof. Dr. Markus Frölich. 

She is a development and agricultural economist whose work focuses on rural livelihoods, sustainability transitions, and empirical policy evaluation. Her research examines how institutions, value chains, and policy interventions shape resilience, equity, and climate adaptation in rural contexts. 

She specializes in applied econometrics and mixed-methods impact evaluations, with field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, Central America, and Southeast Asia. Her work spans topics such as sustainability certification, just transitions, food security, and community-based natural resource management. 

In addition to publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, she collaborates with multilateral organizations and NGOs to deliver policy-relevant evidence and capacity building. 

Dr. Gather is affiliated with the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED) and the University of Mannheim.
