Tom Krebs is a Professor of Macroeconomics and Economic Policy at the University of Mannheim. He studied Physics and Economics at the University of Hamburg and received his Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in 1995. Before joining the University of Mannheim in 2006, he held faculty positions at Brown University, Columbia University Business School, University of Illinois, and Syracuse University.
In his research, Tom Krebs has analyzed how economic policy affects standard macroeconomic variables as well as indicators of the well-being of individual households. His research covers a wide range of policy issues: tax policy, labor market policy, trade policy, stabilization policy, and education policy, among others. The results of his work have been published in leading academic journals and have been used in policy reports for the IMF, World Bank, BMWi, and Bertelsmann Foundation.
Tom Krebs is also the coordinator of the DFG (German Research Foundation) priority program “Financial Market Imperfections and Macroeconomic Performance”, a research network of about 50 researchers working on 20 different projects. In addition, he is the director of graduate studies in economics at the University of Mannheim.
