National and International Connections

The Department of Economics has not only established an exceptionally high number of informal international contacts, it is also officially linked to numerous universities and research institutions around the world. For instance, eight faculty members are Fellows of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London (click here for a list of notable positions at scientific organizations held by our faculty). The Department is a member of three EU research networks and is the only German institution involved in the European Network for Training in Economic Research (ENTER), which is a collaboration between eight of the most renowned economics departments in Europe. In addition to exchanges for doctoral candidates, the network facilitates periods of mobility for professors and academic staff members. Each year, it organizes conferences during which the latest research projects are presented. All of the economics departments involved in ENTER are of the opinion that the activities carried out by the network contribute to improving the research environment in Europe, which makes it more competitive on the international stage.

The Department has established a high-profile exchange program with the economics department at Yale University, one of the top ten economics departments in the USA. In addition to this, the Department maintains a large number of exchanges with universities throughout the world. Among these are: University College London, the UK; Queen's University, Kingston, Canada; the University of Toronto, Canada; the Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium; the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium; the University of Copenhagen, Denmark; the Université Toulouse 1 Sciences Sociales, France; the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Economique (ENSAE), Paris, France; the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Analyse de l‘Information (ENSAI), Rennes, France; the Università Bocconi, Italy; Katholieke Universiteit Brabant, Tilburg, the Netherlands; the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland; the Universitat Autònoma, Barcelona, Spain; the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain; the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada; Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand; Tsinghua University, Peking, China; Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.
