Finding Your Way Around – The Map

The chairs at the Department of Economics are located in block L7, number 3–5, in the center of Mannheim.

 

 

Directions to the Department of Economics

Parking

You can park in the side streets between blocks L7 and L13, or in the parking lot at the main train station or underneath the Mensa (Bismarckstrasse 10). The Department is around a five minute walk away. If you park at the Mensa, you just need to walk down the main street, keeping the palace on your right. Once you pass the east wing of the palace, keep walking in the same direction and cross two streets with pedestrian signals. The Economics building will then be in front of you (L7, 3–5). If you park at the main train station, you can find the directions to the Economics building under the section “Traveling by Train”:

How to get to us:

  • Traveling by Car

    From the South (from Basel/Freiburg or Munich)

    • Leave the A5 highway at the Walldorf intersection and join the A6, traveling north. After 22 kilometers, leave the A6 and take the A656 towards Mannheim. Then, after 5 kilometers you will reach Mannheim.
    • Keep going until you see the water tower (Wasserturm). Take the first left towards the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), then before you reach the station, turn right into Bismarckstrasse.
    • You will see the glass front of the Economics building on the left after around 300 meters (block L7).

    From the West (from Saarbrücken/Kaiserslautern)

    • Take the A6 highway until you reach the Frankenthal intersection. Join the A61, towards Ludwigshafen.
    • At the Ludwigshafen intersection, take the A650 towards Ludwigshafen/Mannheim. As you drive into Ludwigshafen, stay in one of the two right lanes (B44) and continue until you have crossed the Rhein river. Keep right, and within the exit follow the signs towards B37. After around 300 m you reach a large intersection. Turn left. After another 300 m the palace will appear on the right side. Two blocks behind the palace, you will arrive at the Economics building (on the right side).

    From the North I (from Cologne)

    • Travel south on the A3 highway until you reach the Mönchhof-Dreieck interchange. Then, join the A67 towards Darmstadt.
    • When you get to the Viernheim interchange, join the A659 towards Mannheim. This highway takes you directly into the city. Keep going until you see the water tower (Wasserturm). Take the first left towards the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), then before you reach the station, turn right into Bismarckstrasse.
    • You will see the glass front of the Economics building on the left after around 300 meters (block L7).

    From the North II (from Berlin/Hanover)

    • Take the A7 highway until you reach the Kirchheim intersection. Then, join the A5 towards Gießen. Stay on this highway until you reach the Darmstadt intersection, where you should take the A67. 
    • When you get to the Viernheim interchange, join the A659 towards Mannheim. This highway takes you directly into the city.
    • Keep going until you see the water tower (Wasserturm). Take the first left towards the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), then before you reach the station, turn right into Bismarckstrasse.
    • You will see the glass front of the Economics building on the left after around 300 meters (block L7).
  • Traveling by Train

    The main train station in Mannheim is an important hub in the German train network. High-speed trains (German ICE and IC/EC trains) arrive and depart every 30 minutes. The Deutsche Bahn provides current timetables on its website.

    When you arrive at the station, leave through the main exit and go left, passing blocks L13, L11, and L9. You should now be standing in front of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW). The neighboring building on the right is the Economics building (take a look at the campus map).

  • Traveling by Plane

    Mannheim has a regional airport, from which you can fly to Berlin and Hamburg on weekdays.

    The nearest international airport is Frankfurt/Main International Airport. There are regular train connections to Mannheim.
